Appropriate referrals include, but are not limited to:
- Recurrent and chronic infections, including viral hepatitis
- Complex infections requiring specialist management
- Need for prolonged antimicrobial therapy and follow-up
- Travel-related infectious diseases, including pre-travel assessments
- Diagnostic uncertainty regarding a possible infectious etiology, including fever of unknown origin
Referrals will
not be accepted for the following conditions:
- Acute infections and urgent referrals (Patients with acute infections requiring urgent assessment or intravenous antibiotic therapy should not be referred to this clinic)
- Patients < 18 years
- New diagnosis and follow up of HIV (Refer to Southern Alberta Clinic at Sheldon Chumir)
- Tuberculosis and non-tuberculosis mycobacterial infections (Refer to TB services)
- Sexually transmitted infections (Refer to STI clinic at Sheldon Chumir)
- Delusional parasitosis
